The Project

The UK Mail Group is the largest independent parcels, mail and logistics services company within the UK, offering delivery solutions locally and worldwide.

The main project was a new National Sortation Hub, 189,450 sq ft Parcel Hub and 32,500 sq ft detached three storey offices on the site of the former Peugeot car factory. This included 164 dock and van loading doors, High specification Crisplant sorting machinery and 50 meter clear span portal frame building.

The Client

Our client is Buckingham Group who are a large contracting company specialising in civil engineering and demolition as well as being building contractors for large sites such as the UK Mail site.

Buckingham’s worked closely with Goodrich Consulting, who are based in Northamptonshire close to the site. They have over 22 years’ experience in providing project management, quantity surveying and other services to large scale projects such as this.

The relationship began when Signs Now were contacted via our website around 6 months ago to provide a price.  There followed a tender process involving several other sign companies.  When we were called, we also provided free samples of the actual signage, which made us stand out.

We met up with both companies and Charles Hicks (UK Mail) instructed Signs Now to do the work. This decision was made by committee and we worked to make sure they were all pleased

Sign Requirements & Manufacture

Signs Now provided quotes for numerous different types of signage, which were all approved by the planning department. This included bespoke illuminated light boxes, which were shaped to represent the logo, and flex faced aluminium boxes with a drum/skin to the face of it so there's no join in the face whatsoever.  Inside the boxes were LEDs lasting a minimum of 5 years guaranteed.

We manufactured and installed two large monolith signs - 7m and 3m - with full ground works and ground cages.  These were illuminated by LEDs, shaped and curved.

We also produced all way finding and traffic signage for the expansive site, both internally and externally. This consisted of 300 door signs and 120 traffic signs as well as way finding, window and office manifestations.

The Result

Our team worked to a very tight timescale - 3 weeks from order placed to installed – and within budget. All signs were made in-house and fitted by our own teams who are fully qualified to IPAF and CRB and CSCS qualifications. We provided full risk assessments, method statements and certifications of people and their qualifications. We were able to work alongside other contractors with no issues
